Eve's work explores the innate connection between memory and the senses; how seeing a muted shade of yellow, verging on white, can evoke the feeling of warmth from the sun touching your skin, or a vibrant green brush stroke can bring about the widely adored smell of freshly cut grass. Taking a phenomenological approach to her paintings, she explores how her personal sensory experience of immersion in the coastal landscape translates into the mark, line, and colour choices she makes. Documenting her regular beach walks is an important part of the process whereby moments and feelings, which may otherwise be overlooked or forgotten about, are captured within the pages of her journal. Along with memory, photographs, and plein air sketches, these notes are used to inform the formal aspects of her paintings, resulting in a contemporary and expressive interpretation of the coastal landscape.
